Every day women open up their closets and feel a sense of dread, asking the age old questions: What should I wear today and where is it? I have discovered a simple and easy way to solve this problem-organize! Here is a “3 Step” method I have developed that you can use to instantly transform your closets.
STEP ONE
Take everything out of your closet and organize your clothes by ACTIVITY. For example, put your career, casual, evening and active wear in separate piles. For the clothing pieces that you wear for many activities place them in the one ACTIVITY group you wear them the most. (Once your closet is organized you will know where to find these pieces).
STEP TWO
Start to organize one of your ACTIVITY groups by TYPE of clothing. For example in your casual ACTIVITY group take all the pants and hang them back into the closet together. Then do the same with the other TYPE of clothing. Place all skirts together, all dresses and so on. Continue this with each of your other clothing ACTIVITY groups.
STEP THREE
Once you have placed all of the clothing back into the closet by ACTIVITY and TYPE now rearrange each section again by COLOR starting with the lightest colors first to the darkest within each section. For example within the casual clothing ACTIVITY group go to your pant section. Place your white pants in front, and then place your pink pants behind the whites and so on until the darkest color is placed at the end of this section. Now continue to organize by COLOR for the rest of your ACTIVITY groups..
Now that you have learned how to organize your clothes with this “3 Step” method, do the same with your scarves, sweaters, handbags, shoes and even your jewelry. For your scarves, use containers or boxes and sort them the same way. Label the container or box such as career scarves etc. You can do this with your handbags, but instead of containers or boxes just place them on a shelf in your closet keeping in mind that you are placing them together by groups. It is easy to organize your shoes in the same way. For your jewelry take one of your drawers or a jewelry box and create sections for each group.
Once you have organized your wardrobe by ACTIVITY, TYPE and COLOR your closets will begin to look like they belong in a retail store. It will be easy to find what clothing you are looking for, discover those pieces you forgot you had and have an easier time getting dressed. Before you know it you will be so excited to go shopping- in your own closet!!
